Candlelight Dinner 2009. February 27th, 28th, 29th at Black Forest Academy This year's theme is a Gospel Choir presenting "Sing Freedom!"
Candlelight Dinner was dreamed up by Leah Heineman, 15 plus years ago, when she wanted to do something for the couples in the community. She was an aerobics instructor, and she chose to host a dinner which would include husbands and boyfriends! From there, it has grown to include not only Kanderners, but folks from other surrounding villages. It also evolved from a Valentine's Dinner to being a Dinner-Dessert-Theater which performs for three nights. Students and Staff from the local Black Forest Academy, community people, local churches and numerous individuals (even some who fly over from the States just to help) comprise a team of dedicated, hardworking, creative people. The goal? To honor our German neighbors and say "thank you" for letting us live in their wonderful community! The themes vary from year to year, from whimsical and magical to adventurous and exciting! Always the underlying theme involving Eternity and how our lives are affected by time and circumstance, comes through. Later, relationships are deepened as we continue in conversation regarding the most recent "Candlelight Dinner".
